Written by the licensed technicians at Automatic Gate Masters. We have installed thousands of gate access systems across the Bay Area since 2014.

Gate remote access is any system that lets you open, close, or grant entry to your automatic gate without touching a button at the gate. These systems use radio, cellular, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth to link your control device, a remote, keypad, phone, or card, to the gate operator.

Modern setups go far beyond the old clicker in your car. You can open the gate from your phone anywhere in the world, see and speak to visitors, hand out one-time codes to a contractor, and log who came and went. Most Bay Area homeowners pair a keypad at the gate with a smartphone app for remote and guest access.

Every system we install meets UL 325 safety standards for automatic gate operators, and smart systems use encrypted rolling codes or AES encryption to resist hacking.

    FAQ

    Gate remote access questions

Can I add remote access to my existing gate?
Usually yes. If your gate opener was made after 2015 it likely supports modern keypads and app control. Older openers may need an upgrade. We do a free site visit to check compatibility before any work begins.
Do smartphone gate apps need a monthly subscription?
Some do, some do not. LiftMaster myQ is free for basic use and charges for guest features. CellGate has a small monthly service fee since it uses cellular data. DoorBird has no required fees after install. We explain all costs upfront.
What happens if my internet or power goes out?
Every quality system we install has battery backup that keeps the gate working for hours. For internet-based systems, the keypad and RF remotes keep working locally, and we can add a solar backup for properties that lose power often.
    How long does installation take?
Basic keypad and remote jobs take 2 to 4 hours. App integrations take 4 to 6 hours. Full video intercom setups take a full day. We usually finish in one visit.
Is gate remote access secure from hackers?
Yes, when installed correctly. Modern systems use encrypted rolling codes for RF and AES encryption for smart systems. The bigger real risk is weak or shared PIN codes, and we walk you through best practices at install.
