Menlo Park ties gate and fence height to the front setback. In the required front setback a gate or fence is generally limited to 4 feet, and taller runs need more room: about 5 feet at a 2-foot setback, rising on an even gradient to 6 feet at a 6-foot setback and up to 7 feet at a 20-foot setback. Corner lots are held to 3 feet inside the 35-foot sight triangle, and any fence over 4 feet needs design variation along at least 20 percent of its length.
