Los Altos sets gate height by where the fence sits. In the required front yard, or within 5 feet of a corner lot's exterior side line, a fence or gate is generally limited to 4 feet, with 6 feet allowed elsewhere. To keep sight lines clear, no fence over 3 feet may sit in the 25-foot triangle at a street corner, and no fence over 4 feet may sit in the 15-foot triangle where a driveway meets the street, which affects where the gate and its columns can land. A single open arbor-style entry up to 8 feet is allowed over a walkway.
