    Design & Build

    Custom Driveway Gates in Gilroy

Built for gated golf-community lots, hillside estates, and farm parcels with long driveways.

We treat driveway gate installation as one complete job: the gate, the posts and footings, the operator, and the access control that opens it. Specifically, we design and build custom driveway gates for Gilroy in wrought iron, steel, and wood. Gilroy mixes gated golf-community living at Eagle Ridge with garlic-and-agriculture heritage and Santa Clara Valley Wine Trail properties off Hecker Pass, so our work here runs from community-spec entry gates to wide farm entrances. We build to the property, no aluminum, only materials that last outdoors here. Then we automate it with the operator and intercom that fit how the property is used.

Every gate is engineered for its opening, then finished in the powder-coat color you choose and paired with the right operator. Meanwhile, downtown and Old Gilroy sit in a historic district, so older streets can add a design review step we plan for. Want a fully bespoke design? Gilroy allows a full-height driveway gate once it sits 26 feet back from the curb. Under Gilroy City Code Chapter 30, Article XXXIV (Section 30.34.30), residential fences may reach 7 feet, but anything in the front yard taller than 3 feet above the curb must be set back at least 26 feet from the face of curb. On corner lots, street-side yards need 16 feet from the face of curb above 3 feet. Besides that, a fence meeting the main-building setbacks may reach 8 feet when it stands 6 or more feet off the side lot line, while entry arbors and trellises over a gate are limited to 8 feet in the front setback. For sight lines, Section 20.60 keeps anything over 3 feet above curb out of the 20-foot corner triangle at intersections, and electrified fences are prohibited. In practice, we place the gate line 26 or more feet back so the gate can run full height, which also creates a guest parking apron in front of the gate. Gate operator electrical work is permitted through the City of Gilroy Building Division. Rules change and every lot is different, so we confirm the current requirements with the city and pull the permits the gate and automation need.

Because many Gilroy parcels are working farms, we build for daily truck and trailer traffic, not just cars. Also, gate posts get engineered footings, so valley winds and constant cycling never rack the leaves. For example, a cantilever slider with a solar operator suits a long Hecker Pass driveway where trenching power would cost more than the gate.

    Gilroy Driveway Gate Installation FAQ

Do I need a permit for a driveway gate in Gilroy?

The fence and gate rules do most of the shaping. Gilroy allows residential fences up to 7 feet, but anything in the front yard taller than 3 feet above the curb must sit at least 26 feet back from the face of curb, and street-side yards on corner lots need 16 feet. Sight lines matter too, because nothing over 3 feet above curb may sit in the 20-foot corner triangle at intersections. In addition, the electrical work for a gate operator is permitted through the City of Gilroy Building Division. Every lot is different, so we confirm the current requirements with the city and pull the permits the gate and automation need.

How much does driveway gate installation cost in Gilroy?

A built-and-installed iron, steel, or wood driveway gate in Gilroy typically runs about $8,000 to $20,000 depending on width, design, and site work, with automation, video intercom, and access control adding roughly $3,000 to $7,000. Wide farm and hillside entrances sit at the higher end. Finally, we give a free on-site estimate so the number is exact.

Why does my Gilroy gate need to sit 26 feet back from the curb?

Because Gilroy caps anything in the front yard at 3 feet above the curb unless it sits at least 26 feet from the face of curb. So rather than shrinking the gate, we place the gate line 26 or more feet back, which lets the gate run full height and also creates a guest parking apron in front of it. Basically, the rule ends up improving the entrance.

Can you build a driveway gate that fits Eagle Ridge's standards?

Yes. Eagle Ridge is a gated golf community in the western foothills, so an individual driveway gate there needs to fit the community's look and its access expectations. We match materials and profiles to the neighborhood, then add keypads, visitor entry, and app access that work alongside the community's own gate.

Should I get a sliding or swing driveway gate in Gilroy?

Flat valley lots in Glen Loma Ranch and around downtown usually take a dual swing, while Hecker Pass and northwest hillside approaches often suit a cantilever slider that does not need to clear the grade. During the free on-site assessment, we recommend the type that fits your driveway.

How long does driveway gate installation take in Gilroy?

Adding an opener and access control to an existing gate is usually one day. A wide custom entrance with fabrication, new posts, fresh wiring, and intercom takes several days. Once we survey the site, we give a clear timeline with your written estimate.

Already have a gate in Gilroy?

If your existing driveway gate is stuck, grinding, or will not close, we also handle fast gate repair across Gilroy, for all brands and every operator type. Basically, most gates are diagnosed and fixed on the first visit.
