Concord allows 3 feet at the front and up to 7 feet on the sides with a lattice top. Under the Concord Development Code Section 18.150.040, a fence or gate along a front property line or in the required front setback is limited to 3 feet; residential side and rear fences may reach 6 feet, or 7 feet when the top foot is open lattice, and up to 8 feet with a minor exception. Concord also applies a sight visibility triangle at driveways (Section 18.150.170), a real design constraint for corner-lot gates that we engineer around. Chain link visible from the street is prohibited, which favors fabricated iron and steel.Because an automatic gate adds an operator and wiring, the electrical work typically needs its own permit.
