Custom Driveway Gates in Alamo
Built for hillside estates and sloped driveways on Alamo's larger, oak-studded lots, then automated.
We design and build custom driveway gates for Alamo in wrought iron, steel, and wood. Alamo is a semi-rural community of large, oak-studded lots along the San Ramon Valley, from Round Hill and Alamo Oaks off Stone Valley Road to the estate properties of Westside Alamo that climb toward the Las Trampas foothills, so the natural fit is a wide dual-swing estate gate at the head of a long, often sloped private drive. We build to the home and the grade.
Every gate is engineered for its opening and finished in the powder-coat color you choose, then paired with the right operator and access control. For a nearby example, see our Alamo custom cedar driveway gate project, built on a sloped Alamo driveway between existing masonry columns, or explore our custom gate design work.
Alamo gate permits and Contra Costa County code
Alamo is unincorporated Contra Costa County, which allows fences and gates up to 7 feet. Under the Contra Costa County Ordinance Code, a fence or gate up to 7 feet is allowed in the required yards, including the front, with no special reduced front-yard height that many Bay Area cities impose. As a result, fences 7 feet and under generally do not require a building permit (Ordinance Code Section 72-6.202).
However, two things still trigger a permit. First, a masonry or concrete wall is treated as a wall, not a fence, so it needs a permit at any height. Second, because an automatic gate involves electrical work, the operator and its wiring generally require an electrical permit. In addition, gates and fences need to stay clear of the driveway and street sight lines for safe visibility. Because rules change and every lot is different, we confirm the current requirements with the county and pull the permits the gate and automation need.
