Modern Acrylic Dual Swing Driveway Gate in Atherton
We built a custom dual swing driveway gate for an Atherton home: a dark powder-coated steel frame with a rectangular grid of frosted acrylic panels, automated with two LiftMaster CSW24UL operators, one for each leaf.

The project
This custom automatic dual swing gate was installed at a residential property in Atherton, CA. The design features a dark powder-coated steel frame with a modern rectangular grid and frosted acrylic infill panels. The acrylic provides privacy while still allowing soft natural light to pass through, giving the entrance a clean, contemporary appearance. The gate was integrated between smooth stucco columns and automated using two LiftMaster CSW24UL swing gate operators.
The homeowner wanted an entrance that felt private from the street without turning the driveway into a solid wall, and that matched the contemporary lines of the house rather than fighting them. We designed and fabricated the gate in house, then handled the automation, the wiring, the safety sensors, and the setup. The result is a wide, symmetrical entrance that reads as part of the architecture instead of an add-on.

The gate design
We fabricate our gates in house, so the gate is built to the opening and to the house, rather than cut down from a stock size.
The gate is a dual swing, two matching leaves that meet at the center of the driveway. Each leaf is divided into a geometric grid of rectangular panels, twelve translucent panels arranged in three horizontal rows across the pair. The dark charcoal frame surrounds the lighter infill, which gives the entrance its strong horizontal lines and keeps the whole thing symmetrical from the street.
The gate sits between smooth stucco columns with matching perimeter walls and dark caps. Slim black wall sconces on both columns pick up the same finish as the gate frame, so the metalwork and the lighting read as one piece. Against the light walls and the gray paver driveway, the dark frame is what your eye follows.
Modern rectangular grid
Twelve translucent panels in three horizontal rows, split evenly across two matching leaves.
Dark powder coat
A matte charcoal powder-coated finish over welded steel, for corrosion resistance and a smooth modern look.
Frosted acrylic infill
Blocks the view from the street while letting soft natural light through, so the entrance is private without being a solid wall.
Symmetrical center opening
Two equal leaves meeting at the center, sized to the driveway width and to the column spacing.

Materials used
What the gate and the surrounding entrance are actually made of.
Two leaves, two CSW24UL operators, one entrance
A dual swing gate is not one gate, it is two independent moving panels that have to behave like one. Each leaf has its own weight, its own hinge, and its own arc, so each one gets its own operator. On this project we installed two LiftMaster CSW24UL swing gate operators, one per leaf.
The two operators are then configured to work together. They open and close in a set sequence so the leaves do not collide at the center, and both sides are set with their own open and close limits so each leaf stops exactly where it should. We ran the wiring, installed and tested the safety sensors so the gate stops and reverses if something is in its path, and set the gate up for remote and keypad entry.
The takeaway for homeowners: on a dual swing gate, the setup matters as much as the hardware. Two operators that are properly sized, wired, and synchronized are what make a wide entrance open smoothly every day instead of fighting itself.

What this means for the homeowner
A custom gate, designed around the house and installed with care, pays the homeowner back every day.
A screened entrance
The frosted acrylic blocks the view up the driveway from the street, without closing the entrance off like a solid panel would.
Soft natural light through
The panels let daylight pass, so the entrance stays bright and the gate does not read as a heavy dark wall.
Lines that match the house
The rectangular grid and the dark finish were drawn to fit the contemporary architecture and the existing sconces and columns.
Opens without leaving the car
Two synchronized operators with remote and keypad access, so both leaves swing open on approach.
Automatic gate installation in Atherton
Atherton properties tend to sit behind long frontages, mature trees, and architectural walls, so the gate is usually the first thing anyone sees of the house. That is why a stock gate rarely works here. Whether the entrance calls for a modern steel and acrylic design like this one, a traditional wood or wrought iron gate, a dual swing, or a sliding gate for a tighter driveway, we design the gate to the property and automate it with the right operators.
We build and service custom driveway gates, install gate openers and access control, and handle full automatic gate installation in Atherton and across the Peninsula. You can also see our earlier Atherton driveway gate project.
